2011 WATER AND SANITATION MEDIA AWARDS
The National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) welcome entries for the sixthedition of the Water Supply and Sanitation Media Awards. The competition is open to Zambian journalists who publish or broadcast original stories and reports on water supply and sanitation related issues and their impact on individual and national development.
The Water Supply and Sanitation Media Awards recognize and support the critical role of media in raising awareness of the importance of water and sanitation. It aims to promote coverage of water and sanitation issues in the local and national media to have a positive influence on decision-makers, the private sector, the civil society as well as individuals and households. It is an annual privilege to pay tribute to a wide range of talented individuals, all of whom have unique and compelling stories to tell, and to join in the celebration of their abilities.
Timeline
To be eligible, entries must be published or broadcast between 1st July 2010 and June 30th 2011 by a Zambian registered and/or authorized media house or agency or carried on a website of a registered and/or authorized Zambian media house or agency.
Entry categories
Journalists may submit one piece of work in the following categories:
- Print Journalism:comprising samples of features/articles published in newspapers, newsletters and website;
- Radio Journalism: comprising broadcast material on CD/DVD;
- Television Journalism: comprising televised material on CD/DVD;
- Photojournalism:comprising samples of published pictures with caption or text;
- Print journalism submission should have a minimum of 600 (six hundred) words and a maximum of 2500(two thousand) words.
- Broadcast or televised materials should have a minimum duration of five minutes and a maximum duration of thirty minutes and all broadcast material should be accompanied by a transcript.
Languages
Entries will be accepted in English and local languages.
Awards
Five prizes will be awarded:
1. One for the best entry in Print category
2. One for the best entry in TV category
3. One for the best entry in radio category
4. One for the best entry in Photojournalism category
5. One for the most consistent Water and Sanitation Reporter
All Awards are valued at ZMK2 000 000 (Two Million) and thewinners will be rewarded at a ceremony to be held in Lusaka on the 5th August 2011 at Pamodzi Hotel.
Submissions
All entries must be received no later than July 15th 2011 together with a copy of a Curriculum Vitae and full contact details of the journalist including full names, Media institution you work for, the date your work was published or aired and the media house/agency that carried your story,Physical address, telephone and where applicable fax number and e-mail address.
