In June 2000, the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council was established under the Water Supply and Sanitation Act 28 of 1997. Its main function was to regulate water supply and sanitation service provision. June 2010 marks exactly 10years of NWASCO’s establishment. Activities marking the Decade Jubilee have been scheduled.
Q. Why the need to celebrate NWASCO’s 10years anniversary?
A. Anniversaries have been celebrated since time in memorial to mark significant milestones. They have been used as occasions for reflection, restoration and reconciliation. Individuals, families, leaders, organizations, countries, etc. celebrate important events and milestones in their lives. For the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council, the success of ensuring people get increased access to safe drinking water since 2000 is a major achievement that calls for a celebration. Despite our many challenges as the national regulator, we have arrived at a significant landmark and need to take the needed pause to re-awaken and ignite the intent and purpose of our establishment with a determination to redirect our paths towards further success.

A. The main objectives are;
· To celebrate and commemorate NWASCO’s landmark achievement in regulation of water supply and sanitation providers.
· To reflect on the growth, development, achievements and challenges of NWASCO over the past 10years.
· To look forward to the future, to our vision of providing safe, affordable and sustainable water supply and sanitation services for all.

Q. What’s the significance of this theme?
A. Ensuring quality water supply and sustainable sanitation service provision to a population of millions of people is indeed a great challenge. NWASCO’s 10years attainment of regulating service providers for increased quality water supply and sanitation since 2000 is a milestone. Since its establishment, the company has witnessed improved and increased access to clean water and sanitation services.

A. Several events and activities have been lined up to commemorate this special anniversary. These include open day, TV documentary, TV programmes, interviews, newspaper supplement, and a gala dinner to launch NWASCO’s 10year booklet and a toll free line.

A. There will be numerous and priceless benefits to NWASCO through the celebration of this great milestone. The benefits include, among others:
· Re-ignite a collective passion and commitment to bring about a renewed pride and confidence in regulating quality provision of water supply and sanitation services;
· Reflect on our 10 years of experiences as the national regulator, focus on the lessons learned, and re-chart a way forward toward increased success in the future;
· Reflect on the many projects and activities that NWASCO has undertaken and how they have progressed.
· Increase consumer/stakeholder awareness of sector success and challenges.
