Two Zambian Journalists awarded for reporting water and sanitation issues

Two Zambian journalists, Gethsemane Mwizabi of the Times of Zambia and   Bangwe Naviley  of Muvi Television have been awarded for their journalistic efforts in consistently covering water and sanitation issues.

The Two Journalists received the awards at the prestigious 2010/2011 NWASCO  Urban and Peri-Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Report Launch held on 5th August at the Pamodzi Hotel.

Gethsemane won in  the best print category for his article carrying the title” Water and Sanitation :is Zambia ready for the 2015 Millennium Development Goal?” 

 

 

Bangwe scooped the best television category for a package highlighting  pollution of Kafue River by the mining companies on the Copperbelt and was also recognized as  the most consistent Reporter of water supply and sanitation bagging in Two Million and Four Million Kwacha  respectively.

Awarding the journalists, NWASCO Director Kelvin Chitumbo said the media played an important role in highlighting issues of water and sanitation in the country. He said journalists were awarded for their excellent and consistent reportage and advocacy of water and sanitation issues.

This year’s Water Supply and Sanitation Media  Awards were the sixth edition since inception in 2005. The Media Awards recognize and support the critical role of media in raising awareness of the importance of water and sanitation. It aims to promote coverage of water and sanitation issues in the local and national media to have a positive influence on decision-makers, the private sector, the civil society as well as individuals and households. It is an annual privilege to pay tribute to a wide range of talented individuals, all of whom have unique and compelling stories to tell, and to join in the celebration of their abilities
