Water Providers
Part IV of the Water Supply and Sanitation Act requires all providers of water supply and sanitation services to operate under a licence issued by NWASCO. A provider is only issued a licence upon satisfaction of the requirements stipulated in section 12 of the Act..
There are currently two types of Water Supply and Sanitation service providers in Zambia. These are Commercial Utilities (formed by joint ventures among Local Authorities) and Private Schemes (companies supplying water and sanitation services as a fringe benefit to employees).
11 Commercial Utilities and four (4) Private Schemes are currently licensed by NWASCO.
